Curcumin is the active ingredient of the spice turmeric. It has been used for over 1000 years in some cultures to help treat many types of disorders. It helps address certain symptoms such as mild liver inflammation and can also work to manage fat accumulation around the liver. Curcumin is generally regarded as safe although some mild symptoms such as temporary nausea and diarrhea have been reported. Curcumin also can interfere with clotting so it is advised to discontinue use a week or so prior to surgery.
